Why Engagement Sessions Are So Important
I often get asked why I insist on engagement sessions. And, I know, most couples "don't really need one", or maybe they don't even have the time for such a session. But, I wanted to go over why they are EXTREMELY important, and give you some tips on how to make them less stressful (because they really aren't that bad ;) ).
5 Reasons to Have an Engagement Session
ONE: You get to know your wedding photographer. A one hour engagement session is all you need to feel a little bit better about who you have hired to photograph one of the most important days of your life. Not only will you get to know them better, but you'll see how they work when they're behind the lens. Which will help you, and your other half, feel more at ease on your wedding day.
TWO: Your future life mate will be much more comfortable on your big day. Believe me when I say that your future spouse is probably more nervous about an engagement session than you are. And, again, believe it or not, an engagement session will take that edge right off. It helps to elevate any unknowns about the photography aspect of your wedding, and ensures that they will be guided throughout the session and wedding day.
THREE: You get to practice your poses for your wedding day. An engagement session is a great time to have your trial makeup done, or try out whatever hair style you'd like to have on the big day. It's also a great time for the two of you to practice your posing for your wedding portraits. An engagement session is simply a practice run for your wedding day, so make the most of it. Get dolled up and make a date out of it. Pamper yourselves and go out to dinner after your session. You'll look great, and after an engagement session, you'll also feel great. I promise ;)
FOUR: An Engagement session leads to some pretty amazing photographs, which in turn, leads to great gifts for your family and friends. Whether they go on your holiday cards, your wedding website, or in a frame for holidays and birthdays, they help pull together your engagement and give you lots of opportunities to use them over and over again.
FIVE: Finally, and what I think is the most important part (next to getting to know me), these images help tell your story. The engagement part of the whole wedding process gets overlooked sometimes. It's one of the sweetest times in a couples relationship. A time where you are still in the freshness of your relationship. A time where you have both decided to commit yourselves to one another for life. That brief moment in time where everything is still unknown, but your love is still so fresh. Cherish that and have it photographed. It's just as important to capture this moment, as it is capturing your wedding day.
